Clermont-Ferrand is a city located in the center of France. It is the capital of the department of Puy-de-Dôme and the historic capital of Auvergne.

A major French university and research center, the city retains important administrative functions and intermediate services. It is equipped with all the facilities of a regional metropolis and is one of the three balancing centers of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. With more than 35,000 students, or a quarter of the municipal population, and 6,000 researchers, it is the first city in France to integrate the UNESCO Learning City Network.

The city is located at the foot of the fault of Limagne and the chain of Puys, natural site registered since July 2018 like "high place tectonic" with the UNESCO world heritage.
